“Dance” Your Troubles Away With Sila’s New Single.

Dance

Kenyan funk master Sila returns with his new single and video, “Dance” – the latest effort in a musical odyssey which has earned comparisons to iconic artists like James Brown and Fela Kuti. The simply-titled yet evocative tune finds the critically-acclaimed singer further expanding his repertoire of global grooves, with a soukous-influenced melody laden with guitar, horns, female backing vocals, and a mid-tempo beat. Taking a cue from his musical idols Fela and Bob Marley, Sila’s music resonates with positive messages which speak of overcoming adversity and struggle. On “Dance,” he sings, “Woman, don’t cry you’ve got to try/ don’t give up on the fight now/ put on your dancing shoes/ dance this night away!” “I wanted to make a song everyone can relate to,” Sila explained. “In African culture, dancing is part of our tradition. It’s how we deal with stress, by shaking off our troubles and our worries and letting our bodies move in a rhythmic way. When we dance, we feel better about ourselves, and the world becomes a joyous place.”

“Dance” is the first release off Sila’s new album, Super African, dropping Summer 2013. The album is Sila’s first official solo release, following two critically-acclaimed albums with the AfroFunk Experience, The Funkiest Man in Africa and Black President – the latter of which won the 2010 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding World Music Album.

Hailed as “Africa’s James Brown” by the Oakland Post, and “the best of all possible worlds in World Music terms” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Sila is known for fusing world music and funk in an original and unique way – and for his commitment to humanitarian causes, which often carries over into his music. As the SF Weekly noted,“Sila's concern with the mission of his lyrics is matched by the power of his grooves.”

With “Dance” leading the way to your heart (via the dancefloor), Sila’s famed optimism once again becomes contagious. To change the world, all you have to do is turn a frown into a smile, shake your bam-bam and dance your troubles away. For more information, MP3 downloads, and more, visit: silamusic.com
